THE FUTURE IS NOW!!
Congratulations to Team Future from Woodlawn, MD who won the 13 & Under Division II Maryland State AAU Championship at Morgan State on May 2, 2009. Team Future beat the Harundale Hornets in what was their second match up in this tournament. Actually, these teams have faced each other in tournaments and leagues many times before in the last three years. This has come to be a strong rivalry in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. As an organization, The Future Incorporated, had one team finish second (15 & Under), two teams finish third (14 & Under, 17 & Under) and the 13U finishing first.
Team Future Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the lives and futures of youth by offering a positive mentoring program using basketball as the vehicle. The Future Inc. wants to increase self-esteem, build self confidence, emphasize and reinforce good morals, values and belief by providing positive and consistent role models stressing goal achievement and hard work. The most critical target is to have these kids believe in something positive, themselves, one another, structure and most important their Futures!

The game was close early on as previous match ups have been until Team Future went on a scoring run led by two 3 pointers by Koron Ford. Harundale closed the lead to 10 by halftime. Team Future started slow after halftime allowing the Hornets to take a five point lead. Rashard Wattie was able to lead his team back with a couple of blocks and strong rebounding. Chaz Lassiter made a key steal and then gave an assist to Johnny Rhodes who scored and put Team Future up for good. Keith Wainwright lead all scorers with 14 and Melvin Kiehm led the team with 7 rebounds. Kenneth Sherrod was 4 for 4 down the stretch from the free throw line.
Team Future will be going to the National AAU Tournament in Memphis June 26th - July 3rd. The Future Incorporated is looking for sponsors for this trip and to fund more tournaments.
